Foundations to Fluency

Foundations to Fluency is a districtwide after-school tutoring program designed to help Fayetteville third graders reach reading proficiency before the critical retention benchmarks set by the Arkansas LEARNS Act. Certified teachers deliver small-group instruction in phonics, fluency, and comprehension — grounded in the Science of Reading — across two six-week cycles at the elementary schools with the greatest need.

But the support doesn't stop at the school door. Take-home literacy kits and family engagement resources keep learning going at home, while a Digital Phonics Dashboard gives teachers and district leaders real-time data to track progress and intervene early. It's a comprehensive, community-connected approach to closing the reading gap before it closes a child's future.

Summer Learning Academies

Summer Learning Academies give Fayetteville students in grades 4–8 a summer full of exploration and growth — without the cost or logistical barriers that often get in the way. Offered across five tracks — Fine Arts, Leadership & Entrepreneurship, STEAM, Literacy, and Computer Science — the academies blend creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on learning to keep students engaged and academically sharp all summer long.

Every week closes with a student presentation, building confidence alongside skills. And because opportunity should never depend on circumstance, transportation and daily meals are provided for all participants — ensuring every student who wants to be there can be.
