Scholarships

Fayetteville Public Education Foundation Scholarships

Scholarships provide deserving Fayetteville High School seniors the opportunity to attend college and advance their careers. 

Outside of the Deweese Study Abroad Fund, scholarship support may be used to pay for student educational costs, including tuition, fees, books.

Scholarship Funds can be designated for an academic field of study, school, or student need, and named in honor or  memory of an individual or group. The Fayetteville Public Education Foundation honors the field of interest of our Scholarship Funders in our award distribution.

Important Dates

 Scholarships Open:  January 1
 Scholarships Deadline:  February 15
 Award Announcement:  On or Before April 1

Mary Lou Miller Scholarship

Mary Lou Miller was a teacher for over fifty years. Thirty-six of those years were spent in the same room at Root Elementary School in Fayetteville, teaching approximately 750 first graders. Engaging and inspiring students was the foundation of her career.

Dr. Benny A. Winborn Scholarship

The Benny A. Winborn Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Winborn and his 40-years of dedication to the Arkansas public-education system. He served the Fayetteville public school system as a coach, teacher, principal, counselor, and as assistant superintendent.

Marty Thurlby Deweese Study Abroad

Due to international travel restrictions during COVID-19, we will not award this cycle.

The Marty Thurlby Deweese Study Abroad Grant will provide financial support to current or former Fayetteville High School students for study or travel abroad. It is based on merit and need and encourages:  foreign travel, the study of foreign language, the exploration of other cultures, understanding of other peoples, and an awareness of ourselves as world citizens.

Blake Croxdale Writing Award

The Blake Croxdale Writing Award is presented to a graduating senior who shows exceptional promise as a writer. In addition to the completed application, applicants must submit a writing sample.

Class of 1952 Scholarship

The Class of 1952 Scholarship is intended for future education majors, with a preferred focus in math or science. This application is for students enrolled at Fayetteville High School and plan on attending the University of Arkansas.

Heather Spears Memorial Scholarship

The Heather Spears Scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to any qualified graduate of FHS. The recipient will demonstrate not only academic achievement but also involvement in extra-curricular activities and the community at large.

Nathan Altman Scholarship for Creative Writing

The Nathan Altman Scholarship for Creative Writing is intended for students enrolled at Fayetteville High School.  In addition to the completed application, applicants must submit a writing sample.

Matthew Siebenmorgen Memorial Scholarship

The Matthew J. Siebenmorgen Memorial  Scholarship is intended for an outstanding Fayetteville High School senior who will be attending a college or university upon graduation and will not likely receive other major scholarship awards.  The scholarship is intended to commemorate the ideals and life of Matthew, who was an outstanding student academically,  was in excellent standing among his teachers, and was dedicated to family,  church, and civic activities.  He had a tremendous work ethic, particularly in home, community, and church activities.
